accident in daly city. we'll have details coming up. >>> good morning, everyone. it's tuesday, december 11. i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. 5:01. we are on the scene of breaking news in the east bay at an apartment fire that started about an hour ago. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington is in hayward getting the latest. >> reporter: that apartment completely destroyed and there was a mother who lived there with her young son. she told us that she thinks somebody threw something into her home and that's what caused it to set on fire. so arson investigators are on scene. they are trying to sort all of this out but we are on dixon street right by the bart station. this was a one-alarm fire but again it caused significant damage and firefighters say that that family won't be able to return home. nobody was hurt. pg&e crews also on scene securing some lines and we are still waiting to get some more information but as i said arson investigators are on scene. elissa harrington, cbs 5. >>> new this morning, a fire in east oakland is believed to have been started by squatter

, cate caugiran, cbs 5. >>> we now know it was an 11- year-old boy from daly city that is killed in a police pursuit in pasadena on christmas day. police and fbi agents were conducting a gang sweep when they started following a car that committed a traffic violation. the suspects took off and eventually hit a minivan carrying a family from daly city. an adult and 11-year-old were killed in the car. three others in the minivan were injured, as well. four suspects are arrested and face murder charges. >>> the search is on for suspects in a gang-related shooting in south san jose last night short live before 9 p.m. in the area off serenade and lullaby drives. officers safe the suspect started an altercation with the victim, shot him and then took off. the victim taken to the hospital, no word yet on his condition. >>> apparently the smell is what led to the discovery of a ghoulish plot. two people are under arrest now for what was found in the backyard of a home on warren avenue in vallejo. it was a badly decomposed body. richard romer of alameda died two years ago at the age of 56.

in oakland, i'm da lin, cbs 5. >> thank you. >>> an 11-year-old daly city boy is dead after a police chase in pasadena. joe vazquez on the accident and neighbors who are devastated by the news. joe. >> reporter: the victim, allen, is 11-year-old kendrick ing here with his family on 89th street in daly city. they are presumed still to be in southern california dealing with the aftermath of this horrible crash. the family was in southern california in pasadena on christmas day visiting relatives. as they were riding in a minivan police were chasing a suspect in an suv through the streets. the chase went a mile and less than a minute then the suspect vehicle failed to stop for a red light and smashed into the minivan. two cousins were killed including an 11-year-old in daly city. three others were badly hurt. [ crying ] >> the dad and the boy always traveled together and see them together all the time. the father was always the one taking them to school... [ crying ] >> i would see them back and forth coming from sports and... [ crying ] >> reporter: kendrick's neighbor rita is heartbroken at

found an example at macy's in daly city serramonte shopping center. >> all the last minute stuff i got but i a got a few to go. >> richard is last minute shopper. the stores in the mall have some kind of enticement like him. there are some offering discounts even up to 57% off but one store in the mall that offering full two days of shopping and sales is macy's. this is one of more of the 800 stores nationwide that is staying open a full 48 hours. the idea is to make sure that last minute shoppers can find a store open whatever the hour. it worries frank. >> i'm concerned about, who are they going to have come in at 3:00 in the morning and shop? >> some 57 macy's stores will stay open round the clock until christmas eve. down the peninsula in san mateo bridge point shopping center, toys 'r' us will stay open 24 hours until christmas eve. >> it's nice because i've had work all we will week so it's nice to be open 24 hours. i can get my gifts for my family. >> they say it's too late to shop on line because the gifts won't be delivered by christmas day. so a 24-hour store is a good idea.
that occurred early this morning on northbound interstate 280 in daly city. the 5:00 a.m. crash kept lanes shutdown for about three hours. one woman died at the scene. the chp says she was driving alone and apparently did not see an abandoned car. she slammed into it and was struck from behind by an suv. traffic came to a stand still while crews worked to cut the victim out of that wreckage. san francisco is dealing with dozens of toppled trees and flooding right now. crews have responded to at least 40 downed trees. we are told by city officials that none of the trees has hit any homes. also there have been 48 calls of flooding, one the northern police station at fill more and turke. and in san francisco a power pole has snapped in half in the sunset district at 39th and moraga street. a transformer also blew. nearly 8400 pg&e customers do not have power due to this incident. there are no reports of injuries. right now pg&e is dealing with many major power outages and numerous smaller problems throughout the bay area. take a look at some of the hotspots. daly city has 4200 customers in th

daly city was killed in a police chase in pasadena. cbs 5 reporter joe vazquez went to the family's neighborhood. joe. >> reporter: you can see this apartment building behind me. this is where the ing family makes their home. they were in pasadena visiting relatives on christmas day. riding in a van, police were chasing a suspect through the streets. that suspect vehicle smashed into the van and killed two cousins including 11-year-old kendrick ing. let this is a photo according to kendrick's neighbor rita, she identified him from this facebook picture. she says the boy was always involved with sports and school and that his father was devoted to his children. from daly city westlake neighborhood this morning. some places higher up, 80 miles an hour. for the most part drivers were facing puddles. as we showed you earlier, potholes. this is the scene in walnut creek. major ponding causing hazards and extra gripping. where it was not water it was strong wind causing problems. this broken power poll in san francisco's sunset district left 8500 people without electricity. it was just one of many areas where trees or power polls brought down electrical lines. >> the latest numbers on outages show a total of 4200 homes without power. 1400 are in the north bay. 900 in the east bay. just under 1200 in the south bay. 700 on the peninsula and just 60 p in san francisco. -- just 60 in san francisco. then the rain ended and it was sunny all afternoon. this is another worry for the coming days as we begin to dry out. the ground is now heavy from all of the water. let's check in with our meteorologist to check on the rain. >> a lot of rainfall that we are talking about. first storm total i am going toy show you, 10.2 inches in napa county. ken
pole in the sunset district. 8400 customers lost power. in daly city ground saturating rain caused a 50-foot pine tree to fall on 280. the problem blocked two lanes and backed up traffic for an hour. a pothole caused problems for drivers on highway 4. witnesses say more than two dozen drivers ended up with flat tires after hitting that pothole. cal tran sent a crew out to repair the road. >>> overnight news a man is behind bars after leading officers on a high speed chase from san jose to the streets of oakland. the chp says the driver got on to interstate 880 toward oakland after failing to stop for a traffic violation. the chase lasted for several hours before the driver got off the freeway and stopped by spike strips near mountain view cemetery in piedmont. >>> all lanes have reopened on highway 580 in richmond. that is following a fatal accident. the chp says the pedestrian was hit and killed around 8:30 last night on westbound 580. authorities still looking into why the person was walking on the freeway. the big rig driver is cooperating. >>> two hours from now, the supreme court m
